MUDVAYNE Singer Talks About Touring, Playing Smaller Venues
February 8, 2005MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray, who was known as Kud and later as Chüd, recently spoke to the Detroit Free Press about the group's current small club tour preceding the release of the group's third full-length studio recording, "Lost and Found".
"We wanted to go back to the small places, just kind of warm up for the headline runs. It's an opportunity for us to kind of go back to our roots and revisit what we came from," Gray said. For him, the advantages are obvious. "You can see the person that's by the back wall. In the stadium you can't see the person that's in the nosebleeds, you know what I mean?"
After signing with Epic, the bandmates toured and recorded for five straight years, and only recently took their first extended vacation from the business and each other.
"You see the big shiny tour bus pull up and you get off and (fans are) like, 'Dude, what's it like?' and I'm thinking, 'Invite 10 of your closest friends into your bedroom for four months.' That's being on the road. That's what it's like," Gray said.
"It's weird, it's hard. But it's cool too. I'm not going to sit here and cry about my life like it's all a bad thing, because it's a lot of fun, too. But it's the hardest job I've ever had, and I've done some pretty hard work in my life."
As previously reported, MUDVAYNE will shoot a video for their new single, "Happy?", on Monday, February 14 in the Los Angeles area with director Lex Halaby (CHIMAIRA, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE). The treatment for the clip is said to be a "special effects tribute to the power of nature."
"Happy?" is the first single from the group's new album, "Lost and Found", due on April 12 via No Name/Epic Records. The single is scheduled to go for radio adds on February 14.
The follow-up to 2002's gold-certified "The End of All Things to Come", "Lost and Found" was recorded at The Plant studio in Sausalito, California with producer Dave Fortman (former UGLY KID JOE guitarist),who has previously worked with SUPERJOINT RITUAL and EVANESCENCE, among others. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Just" and "Pushing Through".
